During operation the rope is most subjected to abrasion and fatigue accumulation due to continuous bends over sheaves, which leads to wearing and breakage of wires of the rope, reducing its overall strength and increasing a risk of breakage under load. For this reason, the rope is subject to the most frequent regular inspection of its condition. The standard visual inspection allows to identify only clearly visible defects, such as broken strands, waviness, birdcage, etc., but to detect visually even the outer broken wires, especially under asphaltic grease, and count its quantity with a length of rope in dozen meters is a quite difficult task, not to mention hundreds of meters or a few kilometers. Moreover, the visual inspection does not provide information about a condition within the wire rope. Thanks to scientific advances in the field of non-destructive testing and use of modern technology, made possible the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) inspection of steel wire ropes, which allows to “look inside” a rope and gives a fairly accurate data of its condition, namely the existence and number of localized flaws (LF) and the loss of metallic cross-section area (LMA).

WireTest LLC offers service in inspection of steel wire ropes and slings by magnetic flux leakage equipment, that allows the customers to:

  • identify an area of rope with significant number of defects and prevent a failure under load;
  • assess the residual strength of the rope and the possibility of its further safe operation;
  • accumulate statistics of mean time between failures (MTBF) with periodic condition monitoring of rope and optimize own future operating costs;
  • and as a consequence increase the safety of lifting operations and image of own company with a  high level of safety standards.

Using a modern regulatory framework for the ropes and with years of international experience, our company has accumulated a broad base of steel wire rope constructions (cross-section, length lay, wire diameters) of leading manufacturers. WireTest is able to inspect the steel wire ropes made by EN 12385-4, EN 12385-8, EN 12385-10, EN 10264-2; ASTM; DIN; API 9A; such as Bridon, Casar, Diepa, Drako, Drumet, Pfeifer, Python/WDI, Redaelli, Teufelberger, Verope, Vornbäumen, Wire Rope Industries, WireCo, Union, Gustaf Wolf, Fatzer, Oliveira, Prodinsa, Camesa, Kiswire, DSR, Choong Woo, Brunton-Wolf, Usha Martin, Brunton Shaw, Çelik, Wisco, IPH, ZDB DRATOVNA, as well as famous brands of ropes constructions such as Dyform 34LR, Dyform 6, Dyform 8 PI, Endurance 35LS, TK-Flex, D 1315 CZ, PZ 371 (PZ371K), D 915 CZ, Drucrane K19/K16, SKZ 8, GP8C, GPC, GPCL, GPT, RR35C, Classic 35, Compac 35, Hoist C, Solid 8 C, Super 8 C, Flexpack, Iperflex, Keeport, Pack 1, Pack 9P, Evolution TK 16, Q8, QS 816, Turboplast, Duroplast, Stratoplast, Powerplast, Eurolift, Starlift, Turbolift, VS 6-11C, VS 8-4C, Verotop, Verostar, Veropro, Verosteel, Hyflex 35/35P, Powerform 8/8P, CraneMaster 8P, CraneMax M6K, CraneStar 35/35P, DrillStar, DrillMaster, DrillMasterPlus, RTStar, RTMaster, RTMasterPlus, MineStar, MineMaster, ELstar6, ELstar8F, Drag 6, Minesflex 8, OceanMax, Full Locked Coil Rope, FLC, WLC, Integra, Spiral Strand Ropes (OSS), Extraflex.
